Traits of a beauty therapist

Most beauty therapists possess the following traits or characteristics:

  • Good hand-eye co-ordination

It is important for a beauty therapist to look neat and to practice excellent hygiene. He or she should also be friendly, and should demonstrate an interest in his or clients. A beauty therapist also needs to be familiar with the latest beauty products and techniques that are available.

There are many career possibilities for beauty therapists in South Africa. Here are some examples of beauty therapy jobs:

  • Manager of a beauty salon
  • Owner of a beauty salon
  • Beauty therapist at a hotel or resort
  • Beauty therapist on a cruise ship
  • Specialist beauty therapist (e.g. nail technician, make-up artist, massage therapist)

As you can see from the examples above, beauty therapy has an entrepreneurial side to it. You can choose to start up your own business from home, or to market yourself as a part-time or mobile beauty therapist.
