To become a beautician, you will need relevant training. While it is not a requirement to study beauty therapy to become a beautician in South Africa, you will still need to acquire the necessary skills. The best way to do this is usually by completing a course.

At The Learning Group, we offer beauty therapy courses via distance learning. Distance learning will allow you to work and study at the same time. This means, for example, that you will be able to gain essential practical experience by doing an internship or some volunteer practical work at a beauty salon while you study. By working while you study, you also have the opportunity to build up a client base before you start your formal career in the beauty industry.

Your training as a beautician can take anything from 3 months to 3 years to complete. The duration of your training will depend on various factors, including where you study and what course you choose to study. During the course of your training, you should learn about the following:

  • Various beauty treatments and products
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management
  • Customer relationships
  • Marketing
  • Professional behaviour and workplace ethics
  • Salon hygiene
