The Learning Group Writing School - Poetry Writing

Become A Published Poet

Poetry, after a lengthy period of neglect, has come into its own once more.
This revival of interest, in perhaps the most satisfying and creative forms of writing, has been warmly welcomed by all those who appreciate the importance of this most descriptive and evocative craft.
In recent years this has been borne out by the fact that everything from local newspapers to mass market weeklies and monthlies carry some Poetry. The scope of the market for Poetry has been increasing anually, a trend that seems likely to continue. With more and more specialist publishers looking for poets, poetry readings and festivals, awards and competitions is a trend that has led the Writing School to produce a course that satisfies this growing demand.

This course is about the making of a poet - You!

Writing poetry is a creative and imaginative process but getting it published is a very practical one. Our Poetry Writing Course is a clear and detailed course which will show you how to get your poetry into print.

Together with the help of your tutor, you will develop both yourself as a poet and your poetic works. Anyone with a love of words can write a poem. The Writer’s Craft Poetry Writing Course is designed to teach you how it can be done quickly and easily, and in doing so will take the mystique out of this most invigorating form of writing.

Written in a practical format, our course recognises that Poetry Writing is part inspiration and part construction. That’s why “The Poets Message” is such an important part of the course. You are taught to think of your message in terms of lyrics, sonnets, ballads, natural poems, even metaphysical poetry. To express your message you must understand the subtle shades in the use of poetic language. So, your tutor will help you get a feel for rhyme and rhythm, show you how to use a metaphor, alliteration and onomatopoeia; and guide you through the problems of line division and meter.

Poetry should never be formula-written - so we don’t try and get you writing to a set formula. But we do teach you how you can draw inspiration from other poets; and how you can develop your own sense of poetic language and construction. From the first spark of an idea to the final version you will analyse every aspect of the whole formation of poetry in detail.

Our course gives you a combination of fresh insight and lets you communicate your innermost thoughts and feelings in the most effective metrical form.

With the excitement of this very special craft and expert tuition, the Writer’s Craft will show you how to explore your skills and show you what works, what does not, and why!
