many thousands of students.
Go to Questions
- In
how many countries does The
Learning Group
operate?:
The Learning Group operates
in Southern Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and
has many students in Malaysia as well as other countries.
The various Learning
Group
and LSGI operations
worldwide have no financial connection, but have
a very strong co-operating bond, which has lasted
many years.
Go to Questions
- Will
I have a tutor to help me with my studies?:
Most definitely! When you enrol you are assigned
your own personal tutor who sets your assignments,
grades them, and helps you with encouragement and
advice throughout your course.
Go to Questions
- Do
I have a time limit to finish my course?:
Yes, you do. This is because the price of tutoring
and other overheads increase over the years, and
we have to make some provision to absorb costs.
The other reason is that it is important that a
student sets some tangible personal goal concerning
what timeframe is needed to complete studies. Maximum
times are normally double the expected time to finish
a course.
Go to Questions
- What
happens if I run over my time limit?
We are flexible about this, and normally charge
only an administration fee to extend study time
limits. However, you need to apply for an extension.
Go to Questions
- What
is the best way to study?:
Because Distance Education is done in one's spare
time, developing a personal study timetable and
setting study goals is essential. Our booklet "How
to get the best out of your course" is
sent to you on enrolling, and this details the self-discipline
habits that you should develop to complete your
course successfully.
Go to Questions
- How
do I submit my assignments?:
Your assignments and study material are sent to
you as email attachments, and you will return your
completed assignments
via email as well. You will also be able to
download any required supplementary material from
a special restricted student's section on our website.
Because of this, you will need certain software
(see below).
Go to Questions
- What
hardware and software do need to study over the
Internet?:
This website will tell you what additional software
(if any) you will need in studying via e-mail, either
internationally or domestically. You can access
this information at the prices section of each course.
- Hardware:
- PC
platform: 486 or better, running Windows 95/98/2000/NT.
Internal or external high speed modem.
- Macintosh:

better, high speed modem.
- Software:

free from Adobe Systems. However, before you rush
off and do this, remember that the downloadable

your highest speed web access time.Acrobat PDF files
are rather like electronic books, with graphics
and fonts being shown at full resolution on any
computer platform. We use this system to send you
your study material..

We use the forms function in Word for your self
analysis
- Email

both PC and Macintosh
Go to Questions
- Do
I have to have access to the Internet?
No. Our traditional way of doing business has always
been through the mail, so you are welcome to use
this method of communicating with us. However, using
the internet has advantages, particularly speed
of turnaround, and access to research.
Go to Questions
- Are
your courses approved by the South African Qualifications
Authority (SAQA)?:
In common with most of the Distance Education institutions
in South Africa, our applications for this new qualification
is in, but we have not yet had an answer back from
SAQA as to when our accreditation will come through.
Go to Questions
- Which
Writing course should I choose - Comprehensive or
Writer’s Craft?:
First of all, it is important to understand the
difference between
the two courses. Writer's Craft courses teach you
a single writing style such as Romantic
Fiction Writing, whereas the Comprehensive
course encompasses a wide variety of writing
styles, including Romantic Fiction, as well as others.
If you know that you want to be a writer but are
not sure what you want to write about, then you
should look at the Comprehensive Course. Here you
can take the time to decide which form of writing
you are most comfortable about, and can thenconcentrate
on it. Similarly, if you would like a broadly based
writing training, enrol for the Comprehensive Course.
If, however, you already know what style of writing
you like and want to stick with in the future, then
one of the Writer's Craft courses is for you.

internet. However, you may download enrolment forms
via our enquiry page
that can be printed and either faxed or posted to
us.
